Best electric bikes in the UK (2026)
This guide covers every type of electric bike — e-MTB, hybrid, e-road and more. If you only ride off-road trails, our electric mountain bike guide goes deeper on suspension and motor choice; start there if that is you.
e-MTB vs hybrid vs e-road
Full-power e-MTBs (Bosch CX, DJI Avinox and similar) suit hilly trail riding and long days in the Peaks or Cannock Chase. Hybrids and town e-bikes work for flat commutes but feel out of place on technical singletrack. e-Road bikes suit fast club riders who want assist on long climbs — Wilier and other brands offer options to order through us.
Motor feel and battery capacity
Peak torque figures tell you little without riding the bike. Bosch Performance Line CX feels progressive and well supported by UK dealers; DJI Avinox on the Mondraker Zendit delivers more punch on steep climbs. Battery size (600–800Wh typical on e-MTBs) matters less than how you use assist modes — turbo all day drains any battery.
Weight, geometry and handling
A good e-MTB should still ride like a mountain bike when the motor is off or on low assist. Forward Geometry on Mondraker platforms helps on descents where extra weight would otherwise push you forward. Size by reach, not just seat tube — battery bulk affects standover.
Servicing and long-term ownership
E-bikes need drivetrain, brake and bearing care like any bike, plus occasional motor and battery diagnostics. Our Ashby-de-la-Zouch workshop is Bosch e-bike certified. Factor annual servicing into ownership — especially if you ride through winter mud.
Why buy from Stretton Bikes?
We mostly sell e-MTBs rather than town hybrids — if trail riding is your focus, visit us in Ashby and we will compare Crafty and Zendit on spec and setup, not brochure torque figures.

Frequently asked questions
E-MTB access depends on landowner rules. Many trail centres allow e-MTBs on marked routes; some bridleways restrict them. Always check before you ride.
